car recovery
What to do if you need car recovery on the motorway?
1. Stay calm and ensure safety
- Don’t panic! The most important thing is to stay calm and composed.
- If you haven’t already, turn on your hazard lights (this is mandatory on motorways under local traffic regulations).
2. Try to pull over safely
- If your vehicle isn’t fully in the emergency lane, try to slowly move into it if it’s possible and won’t endanger traffic.
3. Use safety equipment
- If you remain in the vehicle, stay in a safe position and stay alert to traffic around you.
- If your vehicle has a warning triangle, place it at least 100–150 meters behind your car (if the motorway and surrounding area allow it).
4. Do not leave the vehicle if it’s dangerous!
- Only exit the vehicle if you are certain it is safe to do so. If traffic is heavy or fast-moving, it’s better to stay inside and wait for help.
- Keep an eye on approaching vehicles in your mirrors.
5. Wait for assistance
- If you’ve called the police or roadside assistance, wait patiently for them to arrive. If your vehicle cannot be started, towing or on-site repair will be necessary.
6. Stay in touch with authorities
- If you’ve contacted the police or a roadside service, keep them informed about your situation. Assist in the recovery process in any way you can.
